My Favorite LGBT Tik Tok Accounts

I don’t know about y’all but I love Tik Tok. Now, I know what you are thinking. Livi, you are 25 years old. Why are you watching a bunch of dancing videos with good looking teenagers?

That’s the thing it’s so much more than that. It’s politics, skits, jokes, people educating their viewers on social issues and much more! The content is so creative!

So, I thought I would do a series about my favorite Tik Tokers . The first part of this series will be about my favorite LGBT Tik Tokers.

Also, I will be doing a separate post for progressive and LGBT christian Tik Tokers but this post will just be about LGBT Tik Tokers.

  1. i_make_it_weird – Chris is a transgender Tik Toker who answers questions about his transition, family, and what it has been like to transition as an adult with a partner and kids. He’s super nice and very receptive to questions he gets.
  2. uhohgay – Spencer is a gay high schooler who makes really chill and sometimes funny videos about honestly just being himself. He also did a series on how to come out which can be really helpful for some people.
  3. garrettclayton – You may recognize Garrett from the Disney Channel Original movie, Teen Beach Movie. He was the main male character in the fictional movie, Wet Side Story in the main movie. His videos aren’t super educational like other LGBT Tik Tokers. They are honestly just fun to watch and a great escape from the every day tasks and such in life.
  4. desmondfambrini – Desmond is a gender fluid man of color who makes videos educating their followers on gender, sexuality, and lots of other things as well. They are also really positive and their videos will make anyone’s day.
  5. haleyfaulkner – Haley is a lesbian Tik Toker. She makes mostly skits about gay culture and such. She’s funny and also really pretty!

So, these are some of my favorites. If there is anyone you think I should know about feel free to drop their username in the comments!

Livi Reviews – The Intern

So, recently, my mom and I went to see the Intern. This movie is basically about a retired old man named Ben Wittaker who signs up for a senior internship program as a way to fill up his free time who that he is widowed and not working. He ends up working for Jules Ostin, the founder of an online fashion site startup website.

The movie definitely did a good job of showing the difference between Ben and Jules’s generations and age groups. A lot of Jules’s fellow young employees would ask Ben questions that showed they doubted him because of his age. They would often speak in a louder vocal tone because they thought he couldn’t hear and give him lighter loads of work to do since they at first thought he couldn’t handle it. Yet, they actually ended up learning a lot from him, not just about work and professionalism but also just life in general. It was really interesting seeing them do this because a lot of the things they said seemed like things I would also say. That as definitely a bit of a reality for me. It made me realize that even though I am not around elderly people that often I shouldn’t look down on them or think of them as these crippled helpless beings just because they are older than me. As far as acting goes, I thought all of the actors and actresses were amazing! They all did a really good job of making their characters seem very interesting but also really down to earth and relatable.

Now, although this movie had a lot of things I really enjoyed there were definitely some things I would have changed if I could have. First let’s start with the lack of diversity. There was literally one person of color in the entire movie and that one person didn’t even have a speaking part! They had one scene which was very short. There may have been a few people of color in the background but I still feel the film could have done a lot better as far as including a more diverse group of people. Now, I will move on to the lack of LGBT characters in the film. The only person I can think of is Jules’s right hand assistant who was basically a walking stereotype of the gay best friend. We don’t ever find out if he is actually gay but he acts very much like the stereotypical flamboyant gay man that is so often portrayed in the media. I found it very disappointing to see a character like that in a day and age where we as a society are trying so hard to stray away from stereotypical roles like that.

Overall, this is definitely a movie I would recommend. It isn’t the best movie I have seen all year by any means but I did really enjoy watching it. This movie definitely one you should see with either your parents or your grandparents. They can probably relate to Ben Wittaker as a character quite a lot.

If you saw the movie and feel you have something to add or have any questions you would like to ask feel free leave a comment below!

Livi Reviews – Inside Out

Hey everyone! So recently I saw the new Pixar film, Inside Out, with my family and my friend Paris. I’m a huge Pixar fan, so I was really excited to see this movie! The concept of Inside Out is really unique, and I can honestly say I have never seen a movie quite like this one! The whole idea of our personal feelings being turned into cartoon characters just seemed so creative and cool to me!

Now, before I begin to review this movie, I would like to preface this by saying that I always try to view things from a politically correct standpoint. So, although there were a lot of things I did like about this movie, I some things in this movie to be pretty problematic.

First, I’m going to talk about the things I didn’t like about this film. One of the main characters, Sadness is portrayed as a fat nerd who wears thick glasses and mopes around feeling sorry for herself throughout the majority of the film. Now, although a lot of these things do make sense because of what this character is supposed to be like, I definitely feel that Sadness did not have to be fat. The fact that she is fat reinforces many negative stereotypes about fat women. Like, what is Disney trying to say, that  fat girls should just mope around feeling sorry for themselves all the time, being the outcast in their friend group? Another thing I did not like about this film is how when we see  the feelings in Riley’s parents’ minds, they reinforce a lot of gender stereotypes. The feelings in Riley’s dad’s mind are all super masculine, while Riley’s mom’s feelings are very feminine and more intuitive. Although we only see the parents’ feelings in one scene, a scene that is meant to be very funny, their stereotypical tendencies are definitely something to think about.

Now, on to the things that I did like about this film. I feel like this movie did a great job of showing just how important each and every feeling is. We definitely were able to see how important it is that we recognize all of our feelings instead of just the ones that are easy for us like joy. I am really glad that I have seen quite a few discussions about mental health and the importance of valuing our feelings, because of this movie. I personally thought Anger was hilarious! He was so extreme when he was angry you could not help but laugh! My mom and I came to the conclusion that if Anger were a real person he would be George Costanza from Seinfeld, since Costanza is so bitter throughout the show. As far as the acting goes, I really liked all of the voices of the characters. Amy Poehler was the voice of Joy and Mindy Kahling was the voice of Disgust, which I thought was really cool! I am a huge fan of both Poehler and Kahling. I also definitely feel that this movie did a great job of keeping a good balance between serious moments and comic relief.

So, overall, I really liked Inside Out despite its many flaws. I wouldn’t say this movie is one of my all-time favorites, but I would definitely pay to go see it again. If any of you have seen Inside Out, feel free to let me know what you thought of it in the comments below!

What I’ve Been Listening To – March 2015

So, if you didn’t already know, I love music! I listen to music literally all the time! Rap, Pop, Indie, Acoustic, you name it I’ll listen to it! Although I’m not personally talented in the music department, I have a huge appreciation for the art of it.

I’ve seen a lot of people online start doing this thing where they make monthly playlists. So, I thought I would start making some monthly playlists as well.  These playlists are basically like virtual diaries of what our musical tastes are at this moment in time. I think it will be really interesting when I look back on these monthly playlists 5, 10, maybe even 15 years later, seeing what kind of music I used to listen to when I was younger.

The 5 artists that are listed below are the musicians whose music I have really enjoyed listening to throughout this month. Many of their songs are featured on my playlist. I have been listening to their songs non-stop these past few weeks. I highly recommend that you all listen to all of them and their most recent songs and albums.

Logic – Now although I am a huge fan of rap music,(Rick Ross is the boss! Cool? No? Ok, I’ll stop trying) I usually tend to stick to my traditional favorites when I listen to my usual genre of choice, but Logic, ooh Logic! His lyrics speak to me on a whole other level! I love relatable his songs are despite how unusual and out of the ordinary his story is. Listening to Logic’s music is like listening to beautiful poetry and an intense love story. Yet, this love story isn’t just about a girl it’s a love for life and all the crazy things that come with it.

Drake – If you don’t know who Drake is where in the world have you been? Well don’t worry darling because I will take care of you( you see what I did there? With his lyrics? Cute? Clever? No? Ok…). His new album If You’re Reading this It’s Too Late is amazing! It’s not so good that I would say it is one of my all time favorite albums but it is definitely up there and very well made. The album is basically about how he sees the world differently now that he has made it big in the music industry, because of things like how much money he now has and now people treat him differently now.

Oh Wonder – This group I found out about through one of my favorite YouTubers, Arden Rose. Not only is she absolutely gorgeous( like seriously I’m turning gay just looking at her!) but her sarcastic personality and dry sense of humor makes her videos even better than they are. She has an app that keeps her viewers, or as she likes to call them Rose Buds, on all her social media links and just everything she has been up to.Their song, The Rain  came up on her app’s feed one day so I thought I would give it a listen. I instantly fell in love! Their sound is so unique and their voices intertwine so beautifully it’s insane! They also are releasing a new song at the beginning of every month which is definitely something to look forward to considering how talented they are. The only problem? This makes it even harder to wait for their first full album that comes out in September!

Nicki Minaj – I have been a dedicated fan of the Pink Barbie ever since Pink Friday! Her story is super inspiring and her rap skills are on point! Her new album Pink Print is so well done and so her! It has the perfect balance between serious heart felt tracks and fun tracks. My personal favorite is Only, which features, Drake, Lil Wayne, and Chris Brown. The song is basically Nicki saying that she doesn’t care what the tabloids say about her because she knows who she is and she isn’t afraid to be sexy in public because this is the real her and the only her. As if we didn’t have enough reasons to look up to her as a POC feminist role model!

Loyle Carner – I found out about this artist through another one of my favorite YouTubers, Meowitslucy. Not only are her videos so well made and unique but her music taste is incredible! We like a lot of the same artists. This is probably why I am absolutely obsessed with keeping up with what she has been listening to on her Soundcloud! Loyle’s musical style is so jazzy and upbeat! Yet, it can also be very somber and slow at times. You can really tell that he truly takes the time to put so much effort and evoke every emotion in his body in what he creates! His voice and songs have a very beachy vibe to them, but I also feel that the songs are appropriate for so many other locations and occasions as well.

As well as listening to the artists that are already in my playlist I am constantly adding more great artists and songs as I continue to find them throughout the month of March. So make sure to follow me on Soundcloud and check out the rest of my March Playlist to stay updated on what I am listening to!
